Differential Reinforcement In Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Differential Reinforcement Techniques

Differential reinforcement is a technique used by ABA professionals to change unwanted behaviors into more desirable outcomes. In its various forms differential reinforcement is one of the most effective and commonly used reductive procedures for problem behavior. Interventions centered on punishment techniques may often produce maladaptive emotional behavior and may evoke escape, avoidance, aggression, and other undesirable outcomes. For this reason, implementing reinforcement-based behavior change techniques has proven to be one of the most widely used and effective treatments for learners on the spectrum.
