ALL LIVES MATTER WHEN BLACK LIVES MATTER
Since the passing of George Floyd, an increased amount of awareness has been devoted to the cause of police violence against unarmed African American men and women. Recently, we learned of a new tragedy that occurred in Colorado during August of last year. Elijah McClain, a 23 year old black male with autism, was walking home from work when he was confronted and killed by police for wearing a ski mask. Reportedly nearly 50% of people killed by police had a disability. The violence against unarmed and vulnerable citizens at the careless hands of law enforcement must end. Silence is betrayal in the wake of injustice. No justice, no peace.
Swarthy Lion was born at the intersection of style and empiricism. Because intellectual and developmental disabilities entail effects on mental capacity, these individuals may not be able to self-govern, or express independence (Lotan & Ells, 2010). Swarthy Lion wants to make you a walking advocate. Thanks to evidence-based practice and our impeccable eye for fashion, by shopping with us our customer's can become apart of making a difference. Swarthy Lion contributes to the annual Autism Speaks Walk in efforts to continue raising awareness for this complex population.
